Many people think that Jose Cura is the

greatest tenor today and a world opera

superstar. In his concert performance at

the last Rijeka Summer Nights, he received the Novi List Award for the most fulfilling performance at the festival.  The concert was also voted the musical event of the year in Croatia. This year he comes as a director and interprets the main role in the pantomime spectacle and opera “La commedia è finita”. This famous singer, as well as director and producer, who has the doors open to him at all the largest opera houses in the world, has chosen Rijeka to perform his directorial debut and thus he opens a new, and hugely important chapter in his rich star studded career.

The opera “Pagliacci” by Ruggero Leoncavallo is one of the most popular and most performed operas, which stands out because of its southern melodies and passionate characters. In his own production,                       copyrighted by Cuibar Production

José Cura will sing the role of Canio.

He enthralled the public and critics with this role at the Metropolitan in New York, Milan’s Scala and last summer at the festival in the Arena di Verona. In the first part of the performance of “La commedia è finita”, which is a part of the whole, a pantomime will be performed that is made up from passages of “La Boutique fantastique” [The Fantastic Toyshop] by Ottorino Respighi, and is developed according to Gioachino Rossini, and choreographed by Staša Zurovac.
