The ballet “Coppélia on Montmartre” by Youri Vàmos was created after the ballet classic “Coppélia” by Lea Delibes, and was first performed in 1982 in Munich. In the last century it has been changed and adapted many times. Vàmos has reached out for a story, which he situated in the cult-meeting place of artists and bohemians, in Paris’s Montmartre.

 

“….Vàmos has created a site for a contemporary dance musical and the consecration of the legendary Montmartre. The choreography reaches deep into space, which is particularly visible in the scenes of happiness, and the audience’s attention can always be directed at some of the wit with which Vàmos has ‘spiced up’ his “Coppélia”. The ultimate is the ballet scene in Moulin Rouge….”
