William
Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello has become an eternal inspiration for
artists who draw most different themes from it – feelings of passion,
fear, jealousy... It is the versatility of these emotions that allows
them to be easily transferred into modern time so that they can induce
catharsis through the creative expression of modern art, just like other
works of William Shakespeare. Othello maintains a fine balance between
archaic passion of male-female relationships and the poignant and
unscrupulous political game. As such, Othello was
interesting to the authors of the play
who
have modernized it and replied to it by means
of dance theatre language. The event has been set up, both time wise and
stylistically, into one single night. One single party. Othello at the
end of a party? At the end of a game? The characteristically tragic
plot, subjected to purified dance theatre mediums, accentuates the
passion, while at the same time it inserts a few modern symbols.
