Matsukaze and Murasame are two young women who collect and sell salt from the sea to earn their living. They fall passionately in love with Yukahiro, a famous poet and courtier. Their relationship becomes so stormy and disconcerting that the man is forced to go away leaving his coat and hat on a pine tree as a pledge of his return into the Suma No Ura Bay… Renowned choreographer Moe Yamamoto and director Nenad Glavan selected a touching poetic story “Matsukaze and Murasame – Wind in the Pine Trees” for a new, modern and enrapturing dramatic reading of the traditional Noh play by the “Japanese Shakespeare” Zeami Motokiyo. Yamamoto is the most significant representative of the butoh dance, rooted in Noh and Kabuki drama where dancers’ body and spirit are indivisibly connected and complement each other. The development of the plot is based on symbolic stage language, which is typical of Japanese Noh theatre and also close to the contemporary western style of acting. All elements of the play and scene are constantly moving and blending so that the combination of different technologies (motion capture and the elaboration of actors’ movements in 3D, previously used only in film!) creates an extraordinary atmosphere with supernatural overtones.

Daria Lorenci, Nataša Dorčić, Ballet ensemble and the ensemble of Croatian drama of the Ivan pl. Zajc Croatian National Theatre (HNK) participate in the play. Tickets cost HRK 120 (mezzanine), HRK 90 (1st tier boxes), and HRK 60 (2nd tier boxes and the stage).
