Tvornica TorpedoLjerka Žic, a critic in the daily "Novi list", wrote about the last year’s performance of "Carmina Burana": “Orff’s cantata aroused extremely great interest and attracted 1,300 people to the Torpedo Factory. The rendering of Orff’s masterpiece completely satisfied the standards of the demanding score so yet another production of the "Rijeka Summer Nights" will be remembered by deep sensation and ovations of the audience.” We are certain that the audience will be overjoyed this year as well. The conductor is Ivo Lipanić and the soloists Olga Kaminska, Sveto Matošić Komnenović, Joachim Seipp, orchestra and the choir of the Opera of the Ivan pl. Zajc Croatian National Theatre (HNK), "Jeka Primorja" choir from Rijeka and Children’s Choir "Tratinčice" from Rijeka. Tickets for the first 10 rows will cost HRK 100 and HRK 80 for the seats behind the 10th row.

Orff took the lyrics for this interesting piece from the famous medieval manuscript collection of the same name that was found early in 19th century in a Benedictine abbey of Beuern in Bavaria. Realistic and pagan lyrics that extol the beauty of the nature and love alternate and erotica and naturalism intertwine with humour and satire in the text written in Late Latin, Medieval German and Old French. Orff grouped selected poems by content and divided the 25-movement cantata into 3 great parts: spring/summer, in the tavern and court of love. The first and the last movement of the cantata are dedicated to the goddess Fortuna who governs the luck of every individual on her whim.
